


Galena Ridge was founded in Trout Creek, Montana by Paul Clark
and Cheri DesMarais. Paul is currently the director of the program as well as wilderness chief instructor. Jack Phipps leads expeditions as chief instructor each summer and Jennifer Frields leads our support team as Logistics Coordinator. Additional outdoor instructors and interns work on our expeditions each summer. Galena Ridge staff are certified in First Aid and CPR and have extensive experience in back country safety, living and
travel.
Paul is a 1979 graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in Environmental Studies and comprehensive science teaching certification. Paul has worked with youth as an instructor and course director for the Pacific Crest Outward Bound School (1982- 1985) and was the course director for the first Voyageur Outward Bound courses in Montana in 1984. Paul studied under Ann Wilson-Schaef to complete a year of training in group process work. In addition, Paul developed the Wilderness Crossroads and Ascent wilderness programs (1991-1992) and founded Galena Ridge in 1993. Paul is former chairman of the Montana State Board of Private Alternative Adolescent and Residential Programs,
the board that oversees the licensing of private programs for
youths in Montana.
